Love Lust Tales **** (Flying Teeth)
“My interest was pricked by the band’s support slot for the brooding Bookhouse Boys last year, and their debut album announces them as dark horses of the highest order. Gothic mood music, bluesy and bruised, almost cabaret in delivery, with McVey’s voice prompting comparison with Hope Sandoval of Mazzy Star and 10,000 Maniacs’ Natalie Merchant. Muse, Runaway Bride and Chair are three highlights in an assured set.”
